Sophie Louise Harry, Kids Style and Interiors Blogger, aka @tooyoungforsushi shares her first hand nursery decorating tips.

When it comes to designing a nursery for your little one, there’s lots of things to consider. Many people use their babies gender as a guide, whilst others select a theme they think that will best fit their child’s desires.

 Inspiration

Many Pinterest boards and interior Instagram pages later, I decided on a Safari/Bohemian theme for the room as I wanted to create a bright, airy and fun space that he could grow into. His room is on the small side so it was important for me to add as much character to the space as possible.

We started by painting the walls a very clean white, adding as much brightness to the room as possible. We then chose a ’70’s Jungle Leaf’ wallpaper from Amazon to create a feature on the back wall behind the babies crib. You can buy this wallpaper here.

 Personalisation

One of my favourite parts of the room is the book shelf. Rafs Grandad works for a book company and had been collecting books for him throughout my pregnancy. We’ve managed to build up an amazing collection of children’s classics as well as new quirkier children’s reads. Waterstones stock some great books by children’s authors and it’s worth checking out their ‘3 for 2 deals’ if you want stock up on a few at a time.

I also decided to frame a hand drawn card that my best friend had sent us in the post. We’d received this after we found out Raf’s gender at our second scan. Having personal touches like this in Raf’s room was really important for me as it’s a great way to show of special keepsakes that would normally get lost somewhere/put away in a storage box.

 Accessorize

And it wouldn’t be a safari themed room without the animals! We may have taken it a little bit too for with the stuffed toys, but our Melissa and Doug Giraffe is one of my favourite accessories in the room, one I can’t wait to see Raf play with once he’s a little older.

The Ceiling lamp, rug and Trailing plant are all from Ikea and were pretty cheap accessories to add to the room, adding a more bohemian touch to the space.

One last piece of advice I would give when decorating your child’s nursery; would be that you don’t need to spend a large amount of money to create an exciting space for a children/baby to enjoy. Framing personal memories such as newborn cards and keepsakes is an easy way to add sentimental value to the space.

I hope you like the nursery just as much as I liked decorating it, I can’t wait to see what memories we create with Raf in here as he grows older!
