No one prepares you for how much your life changes when you have a baby.
Of course there are the obvious things. Sleepless nights. Nappy explosions. Painful nipples. But no one tells you about loneliness and how your life will change in a way that you can not imagine. I’m not ungrateful, nor do I want to sound like I am. It’s perhaps just not what I envisaged.

Before having children, you’re in a happy-go-lucky relationship but all of a sudden you can feel like you’re flying solo. You find yourself dividing your time so that you are able to get on with things that you used to do, PC (pre-children). You’re either at home babysitting whilst your partner food shops/exercises/watches the football or you’re negotiating the days and evenings that you can meet friends, alone. It’s now that you truly become a team because life becomes a balancing act that you both need to support.

You find yourself attending friend’s birthdays and meeting their newborn babies (ironically) on your own. You tag team going to the polling station (we now postal vote) and forget spontaneous after work drinks. Well for me at least! There’s been a shift too, in our relationship. PC, I felt like he could do no wrong. I adored him and still do but now, there seems to be more reasons to get cross, frustrated and upset. Normally you’re home alone, except for your precious babies upstairs, and you’re left wondering why it’s down to you to be on the night shift, again. I know there’ll be a time when it all changes and I’ll be yearning for those priceless golden early years back. It’s just that sometimes I wish a part of the old me was still operating, attending things as a couple and not running our weekends with a rota. What strikes me the most about juggling parental responsibilities and the loneliness it can bring, is how incredible single mamas and papas are.

You are super human.
